Reframing Robots for Care: Situating Young Carers in Human-Robot Interaction
As robots are envisioned to be vital to providing care, especially with the demographics change. However, who is involved in this narrative? Who are roboticists studying to develop these care robot solutions? Is it representative of ongoing societal challenges?
In this talk, Laetitia will present her findings that demonstrate that whilst robocists account for care receivers and healthcare professionals, informal caregivers are not often part of studies. Yet, informal caregivers are still expected to ensure the successful deployment of robots—despite increasing care responsibilities due to public healthcare budget cuts. Furthermore, informal caregivers under the age of 18 have not been investigated in Human-Robot Interaction. Laetitia will showcase how she included teenagers that take care of a parent through participatory design to understand their perspectives on the future of robots for care.
Laetitia Tanqueray is a PhD Candidate at the AI and Society Research Lab, Faculty of Engineering, at Lund University (Sweden). She holds law degrees in English, Welsh and French Law (LLB and Master 1 respectively) and a Master's (MSc) in Sociology of Law. During her PhD, she empirically investigated human-robot interactions (HRI) from a socio-legal STS lens in health care to situate and empower informal caregivers.
